Never too late... Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontics is not just for children! There are many reasons for adult orthodontic treatment. Some adults had orthodontic problems that were not treated during childhood or have grown worse as we grow older. Others, who had treatment in childhood, may need further treatment. The loss of a tooth can cause the remaining teeth to shift requiring orthodontics in preparation of bridgework or implants. Orthodontics can help patients undergoing periodontal (gum) treatment by moving the teeth to areas of healthy supportive bone. Since adults cannot benefit from the favorable effects of growth, we occasionally work with surgeons for the correction of severe skeletal problems. Dr. Razdolsky is the inventor of distraction osteogenesis appliances to gain bone mass where it is deficient. The functional, aesthetic and psychological improvements in these cases are both challenging and rewarding. When considering adult orthodontic treatment, the patient's age is relatively unimportant. As with most younger patients, most cases are treated within 18 months.
